Jawel de volgende set...
In Lorwyn is het altijd dag, altijd zomer, en altijd een soort 'vrolijke' sfeer (weinig echt vijandigheid)...
Shadowmoor schijnt een soort nacht-versie van Lorwyn te worden! Een soort 'The Dark' (alleen dan wel geslaagd :)). De faerie tales worden ingeruild voor horror verhalen.

Hmm, bright sunny Lorwyn is followed by a dark world with names and expansion symbols that imply that the world is the opposite and/or a mirror image. Well, it is. Shadowmoor is Lorwyn except it's gone through some pretty radical changes. This event called the Aurora has transformed Lorwyn into its dark opposite. The inhabitants are all there but now warped and twisted. What does this mean mechanically? Well, the creature types that you've been building around all Lorwyn block are still going to show up. They'll be different in a number of important ways, but they'll be there. What won't be there though is the tribal theme. The changes to the world of Lorwyn have had huge ripples throughout everything, including the mechanics themselves. Shadowmoor is playing with all-new themes, but as I've explained before these themes will have synergy with the Lorwyn block.
All new themes? What all new themes? What is Shadowmoor block about? If you read the rumor sites, there are a few popular theories. The most commonly believed theory is that Shadowmoor is a graveyard-based set. Future Sight, after all, sent some strong messages that we would be visiting graveyard mechanics again. And we will, just not yet. Another popular theory is that Shadowmoor is an artifact-themed block. Once again, Future Sight put out some hints in that direction. Something else we plan to explore in the upcoming years, but not this year. So what block theme are we going to revisit and improve upon? None. The block theme for Shadowmoor is one we've never done before. (The set will, by the way, have not one but two timeshifted Future Sight cards in it.)
But wait, you say, you've seen some of the material we've put out to entice retailers to purchase Shadowmoor. In it, it claims "a popular mechanic returns." And it does. Although I should point out that a mechanic is not necessarily the same thing as a keyword mechanic. Nowhere does it say that a keyword mechanic returns. Of course, nowhere does it say that the returning mechanic isn't a keyword mechanic (I enjoy expanding the potential space to allow more discussion on the rumor boards). Also, when we say "popular," what do we mean? We do a lot of market research. This mechanic is something that has tested highly in our research. (By the way, this is a great reason to answer surveys that pop up on magicthegathering.com—we really do listen to what they say.)
Enough about what I can't say. What can I say? The returning mechanic is at the heart of Shadowmoor, but it's being used in some all new ways. I guarantee when you sit down at the Shadowmoor Prerelease that you'll be forced to make decisions that you've never had to make before. Also, the set plays into the duality theme between Lorwyn and Shadowmoor blocks, both in the art and the mechanics. (Yes, it is both synergistic and opposite at the same time.) Finally, I am going to make the bold statement that in my opinion the Shadowmoor / Shadowmoor / Eventide draft environment is going to be the most dynamic thing you have ever seen.
I'm itching to tell you more because I am so excited about this block, but that will have to wait until another day. Suffice to say that in May, something wicked (and as a former Boston resident, I mean that in both meanings of the word) this way comes. Shadowmoor is its own unique stand-alone block yet is also a cool piece to the larger puzzle that is the Lorwyn / Shadowmoor mega-block. I am as proud of this set as anything I've ever done (and that list includes Tempest, Urza's Destiny, Odyssey, Mirrodin, Fifth Dawn, Ravnica, Future Sight, and both Un- sets). I can't wait for you all to get your hands on it. And don't worry, there'll be a few more teasers (in this column in particular and on magicthegathering.com in general) in the months to come.

Wow dat vondt ik voorheen al een vette ability die te weinig gebruikt wordt, maar dit lijkt me toch wel erg tof. Het bevorderd zeker multi-color: 4 of 5 color decks! Het is alleen een beetje moeilijk te zien op zo'n afbeelding van een kaart...

NB - hebben jullie gezien dat die Demigod of Revenge een absolute wrecker van control decks is? Hij brengt alle copies terug vanuit de graveyard in het spel, ongeacht of ie gecountered wordt of niet!!

Trouwens is het weer een kaart voor een beurt 1 kill!

Zowieso is er weer veel innovatiefs in de wereld...zo zag ik laatst een Storm deck dat met Quit Speculation een zooi Lava Darts in de graveyard knalt, en dan samen met Pyromancer's Swath 9 damage doet door 3 mountains te sacrificen en ondertussen de storm-count te jaggen, om vervolgens te eindigen met Grapeshot (die ook 3 damage per kopie doet door de Swath!! - ouch :)).

Did I just say next week is the beginning of Shadowmoor previews? Let me go check. Why yes, I did. You know what that means, it's time for my patented preview teases that I do the week before the previews start.
Here are a few things you can expect in Shadowmoor:
(For first timers, be warned that while everything that follows is completely true, I'm purposely being sneaky and not telling you everything. You've been forewarned.)
Shadowmoor contains:
The word "indestructible"—on a common
A blue sorcery with the text "Take an extra turn after this one" and a mana cost of 1UU
A creature that's the third black-bordered creature to have its keyword ability
A rare cycle built around one of my favorite words (although the word itself only actually shows up in print on one of the five cards; cursed templaters!)
A black sorcery that has three targets and creates six counters
A rare white sorcery with just four words in its rules text
A card that gives protection from something never granted before—and not to a permanent
The expression "+20/+20 until end of turn"
And the introduction of "Q"; never has something so simple been so brain melting (one more hint: Q's a thing, but not a keyword mechanic)

Nou, ik zou die Demigod of Revenge niet echt gelijk afschrijven...5/4 Evasion + Haste is niet slecht voor 5 mana (denk aan Rhorix, die werd ook gespeeld), en dan die ability erbij, en het feit dat ie consistenter te spelen is in een 2 kleuren deck...

De Mirrodin block prerelease kaarten waren de Kaldra equipment pieces...ook niet echt je-van-het zeg maar...
Volgens mij was Ink-Eyes (uit Betrayers of Kamigawa) nog een van de beste.

Die Inkfathom Infiltrator heeft best potentieel in limited zeg...en die 3/4 vigilance knight voor 3 mana is ook niet slecht zeg maar.
Ik vind het best interresant hoe ze dat 'untappen' als activation cost verwerken...de drawback met -1/-1 counters, of dat je het creature eerst getapt moet krijgen (b.v. door aan te vallen).
Persist is natuurlijk supergoed tegen removal...erg vervelend voor decks die zwaar leunen op Wraith of God en Damnation.
Oh en dit ruikt ook wel naar 'broken':

Die Oversoul of Dusk is echt super nasty als je tegenstander die kleuren speelt (en geen Damnation of Wrath of God).
Wat dachten jullie van die Twilight Shepherd? Dat ding is echt plain sick. Heel goed tegen mass removal....wat zeg ik, je kan zelfs in je creature deck met Wrath of God spelen als je wil *nasty*. En dan heeft dat ding nog persist ook...pff damn. Ruikt naar veel Combo iig.

- When you play an {Q} ability, you untap the creature with that ability as a cost. The untap can't be responded to. (The actual ability can be responded to, of course.)

Vindt het echt een geweldige ability! Iets wat we hopelijk nog vaker zullen terugzien in Magic! Ook iets wat niet raar aanvoelt als een helemaal nieuwe maffe ability maar eigenlijk iets wat heel normaal lijkt, al is het wel nog steeds raar :)

Definitly dat ik volgende keer een losse thread ga maken, dit was echt mega irri... Misschien dat ik toch maar eens die rss feed moet tweaken om meerdere updates in 1 post te kunnen plaatsen. Zou moeten d.m.v. een eigen feed te gebruiken die dat doet met een xml history op de achtergrond ofzo :p blabla nerdy talk etc.

Volgens mij bedoelt Kolky dat elke Update-batch (van 1 of meerdere nieuwe kaarten) in 1 post terecht moet kunnen komen.

Niet echt een gossip, maar wel leuk:
Evil things abound on the nightmarish plane of Shadowmoor...
Take, for example, Wort, the Raidmother followed by Din of the Fireherd and - thanks to Conspire - a copy of Din of the Fireherd as well. Yes, that's right, two 5/5 monsters enter play on one side, while nine (!) lands and three creatures have to be sacrificed on the other, as witnessed in round five.
Right now the crowd had to watch Tomoharu Saito's downfall in the Feature Match area, brought on by Steel of the Godhead, which his opponent, Simon Görtzen, had expertly placed on his Augury Adept. The attack went uncontested and the Augury's ability revealed... Armored Ascension! 8/7 fliers with lifelink, card-drawing capability and even more life-gain are pretty good, after all.
But there's not only the big splashy ones. Pili-Pala enchanted with Power of Fire has been running rampage today, both cards being common and so easily splashed. Multiple player are commiserating and stories of this two-card Masticore (a better one at that) can be heard all throughout the hall.

uhoh, moet ik toch opschieten :p Heb vanmiddag wat rondgekeken, maar de structuur binnen vBulletin maakt het mogelijk het te doen. Nu moet ik het alleen nog code'n en proberen het tot een plugin te beperken en geen code-mods.

Na testen op lokale versie van TrefpuntMagic Forum denk ik dat ie af is. Zal hem vanavond implementeren, en dan is het een kwestie van afwachten. We kunnen zelf de snelheid van een batch bepalen d.m.v. te checken wanneer de rss-bot geupdate moet worden. Mij lijkt één check per 6 uur of 12 uur wel voldoende?
