Set Name: Lorwyn
Block: Set 1 of 3 (or maybe 1 of 4?) in the Lorwyn Block
Number of Cards: ?
Release Date: October 12, 2007
Prerelease Tournaments: September 29-30, 2007
Previews start on magicthegathering.com: September 10, 2007

Characteristics of Lorwyn
- Brings Magic into a more traditional fantasy setting.
- Presents a huge, fundamental change in the way Wizards does Magic sets, an unwritten rule that is going to be broken.
- Introduces a new card type that isn't just for the block but will be a part of Magic for the foreseeable future. It's not a subtype. It'll play differently than any other card type and Wizards will be dedicating rules cards to explain what this new card type does.

Featured Races
White: Kithkin
Blue: Merrow (from Gaelic murúch) or Murrough (Galloway) is the Scottish and Irish Gaelic equivalent of the mermaid and mermen of other cultures. These beings are said to appear as human from the waist up but have the body of a fish from the waist down. They have a gentle, modest, affectionate and benevolent disposition.
Black and/or red: Boggarts can be described as brownies that have turned evil. In British folklore, a boggart (or bogart, bogan, bogle or boggle) is a household spirit, sometimes mischievous, sometimes helpful. In Northern England, at least, there was the belief that the boggart should never be named, as when the boggart was given a name, it would not be reasoned with or persuaded and become uncontrollable and destructive.
Green: Elves
All colors: Elementals

Possible associated cards from Future Sight
Goldmeadow Lookout (the only spellshaper that mentions another card that doesn't exist yet)
Mistmeadow Skulk (Boggarts are mentioned in the flavor text)
Fomori Nomad (In Irish mythology, the Fomorians, Fomors, or Fomori (Irish Fomóiri, Fomóraig) were a semi-divine race who inhabited Ireland in ancient times.)
Thornweald Archer (an elf, associated with a weald, which is a pre-Anglosaxon name for a dense forest
Boldwyr Intimidator (anagrams in "Lorwyn Rabid to Timid" or "Lorwyn tidbit di Maro")

Far from the strife of Dominaria lies Lorwyn, an idyllic world where races of fable thrive in perpetual midsummer. Lorwyn is covered with dense forests, meandering rivers, and gently rolling meadows. The sun never quite dips below the horizon, and winter is entirely unknown.

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=magic/planeswalkers/week3

The card shows up when you solve the acrostic on the planeswalker minisite, and also provides the following tidbit about Planeswalkers:

Creatures can attack a planeswalker, and creatures attacking your planeswalker can be blocked by your creatures.
For each point of combat damage dealt to one, it loses one loyalty.

Additional deductions:
-This is a spell. (It has a casting cost.)
-This is a permanent (It stays in play after being cast.)
-This can be destroyed/targeted with permanent/planeswalker destruction/manipulation cards.
-This can be destroyed when its loyalty dries up. (As it can be 'attacked')
-The numbers on the left refer to the 'loyalty cost' of each ability, but it may be too soon to speculate on the qualifiers of each.

Speculation starts here!!

Elminster
29th August 2007, 09:19
Helemaal mee eens Kolk :).

Lash Out - 1R
Instant
Common
Deal three damage to target creature. Clash with an opponent. If you win it deals three damage to that creature's controller. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of his or her library then puts that card on the top or bottom. A player wins if his or her card had a higher converted mana cost)

Wydwen, the Biting Gale - 2UB
Legendary Creature - Faerie Wizard
Rare
Flash
Flying
UB, Pay 1 Life: Return (this) to its owner's hand.

en van mtgsalvation:

A quick recap of the Planeswalker rules, according to the InQuest issue:

- effectively legendary (can't have more than one of each planeswalker)
- come into play with loyalty counters equal to the number in the bottom right
- play only one ability of each planeswalker on each of your turns, including the turn it comes into play, by adding or removing loyalty counters
- when you attack a player, you can assign any number of your attackers to their planeswalker(s)
- the defending player can block creatures attacking their planeswalker(s)
- whenever a spell or ability you control would deal damage to an opponent, you may assign that damage to their planeswalker(s) instead
- each damage dealt to a planeswalker removes a loyalty counter from it
- if all the loyalty counters are gone, sacrifice the planeswalker

Other tidbits from the article:

- elves (G/b) are sociopaths, have some removal, are fast, use their numbers to generate big effects, and there's a token named "Elf"
- kithkin (W/g) are attackers, have abilities that are better on the offensive, and have a Keen Sense streak
- merrow (U/w) are merfolk that swim up streams and channels to fight, have islandwalk, give opponents islands, and have a group effect involving tapping and untapping to generate a stream of effects
- boggarts (B/r) are cruel tricky goblins, sacrifice themselves, and reanimate their dead
- greater elementals (r/w/u/b/g) are powerful embodiments of a Lorwyn concept such as "Dread", all have a new keyword, and generate a powerful effect when combined
- flamekin (R) are fiery humanoid elementals, grant each other activated abilities like firebreathing, and generate mana of any colour to play elemental spells or abilities
- giants (R/W) are large, destructive, and love throwing creatures or other permanents at players or other creatures
- faeries (U/B) are tricksters, all fly, are 2/1 or 3/1 or 4/1, and the blue ones have flash to counter spells, tap things, and bounce things
- treefolk (G/b/w) are resilient, often have 7 toughness, have abilities to protect themselves, and cost 3 mana and up

Lairwatch Giant - 5W
Creature- Giant Warrior (C)
Lairwatch Giant can block an additional creature.
Whenever Lairwatch Giant blocks at least two creatures, it gains first strike until end of the turn.
5/3

Crush Underfoot - 1R
Tribal Sorcery - Giant (U)
Choose a Giant creature you control.
Crush Underfoot deals damage equal to that creature's power to targete creature.

Heat/Ardor/Vigor - 3GGG
Creature - Elemental Incarnation (R)
Trample
Whenever damage would be dealt to another creature you control, prevent it. Put a +1/+1 counter on that creature for each damage prevented.
When Heat would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, reveal Heat, then shuffle it into its owner's library instead.
6/6

Wanderwine Prophets - 4BB
Creature - Merfolk Wizard (R)
Champion a Merfolk (When this comes into play, sacrifice it unless you remove another Merfolk you control from the game. When this leaves play, that card returns to play.)
Whenever Wanderwine Prophets deals combat damage to a player, you may sacrifice a Merfolk. If you do, take an additional turn after this one.

Slaat de 'Tribal' supertype slechts op 'choose a ~ creature you control' of ''Sacrifice a ~ you control' of kleven er nog meer regels aan?

Carnage
8th September 2007, 19:43

Carnage
9th September 2007, 11:20
Let op :)

205.2a The types are artifact, creature, enchantment, instant, land, sorcery, and tribal.

205.3d Artifact, enchantment, and land each have their own unique set of possible subtypes. Instant and sorcery share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are called spell types. Creature and tribal also share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are called creature types. (You can find complete lists of subtypes in the glossary at the end of this document under "Creature Types," "Land Types," and so on.)

212.8. Tribals

212.8a Each tribal card has another card type. Playing and resolving a tribal card follows the rules for playing and resolving a card of the other type.

212.8b Tribal subtypes are always single words and are listed after a long dash: In "Tribal Enchantment - Rebel Aura," "Rebel" is a subtype of tribal. The set of tribal subtypes is the same as the set of creature subtypes; these subtypes are called creature types. Tribals may have multiple subtypes. (You can find the complete list of tribal subtypes under "Creature Types" in the glossary at the end of this document.)

Tribal Sorcery is dus net zoiets als Artifact Creature....twee card types gecombineerd....alleen, Tribal is altijd vergezeld van een ander card type.

Elminster
11th September 2007, 14:27

Carnage
21st September 2007, 20:28

Of Merfolk in wit ....
